Introducing Mandy Marson, our Independent Living Coach

IMG_1330Hello! I am Mandy Marson, Independent Living Coach at Purfleet Trust. I have been with Purfleet Trust for a few years and started off working on reception at our Health and Wellbeing Centre. Since February this year I have been with the housing team and work with clients to assist them to gain the skills to maintain their tenancies and work towards independent living. The Housing Services Team support people who are homeless including rough sleeping and those who are vulnerable to homelessness into suitable, secure, affordable and sustainable accommodation.

We run six training houses for those that require more intensive tenancy support. Demonstrating that you can be a good tenant in one of the training houses improves your chances of being offered a longer term secure housing option.

The houses provide accommodation and support to homeless, or potentially homeless, single people who want to make changes in their lives. The project has been designed to prepare people for living in self-contained or shared accommodation of their own in the future.

The tenants have their own bedroom and the use of a shared bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a reception room.

No two days are the same for me in this busy role, I can often be found at one of our training houses working with clients to help with essential paperwork, look for volunteering opportunities or courses to attend. Every tenant has a key worker, myself or one of my colleagues in the housing team. I  spend time with each of my clients on a weekly basis to talk through any issues they have and work on their support plan for moving forward. I accompany clients to any appointments they need help with such as opening a bank account, attending the GP and house meetings.
