Our Volunteer- Peter Catlin

“I’ve been volunteering for the Purfleet Trust for around two months. In such a short space of time I’ve seen so much incredible work being carried out on a daily basis. When I was given the chance to run the GEAR, I felt it could be a way for me to challenge myself and to raise some money for the Purfleet Trust. The difficulties that I’ll come up against in training and during the run will be nothing compared to those endured by Purfleet staff and clients alike. I’m not at all a running enthusiast, but I’ve enjoyed my training so far. I haven’t run longer distances since I was back in school so it’s taken some getting used to. I’ve been running a mixture of on and off-road to help with my joints. You need to be disciplined and respect your limits but always keep pushing so that you will find them. My volunteer work is mostly collecting food donations from a local supermarket. I’m also part of the fundraising committee that organises events for Purfleet. I hope that in future I can take on more physical challenges to raise money and awareness for the Purfleet Trust.”
