Clients Take To The Water!

Our Clients Take to the Water with New Sailing Programme

We’re delighted to introduce the latest exciting new adventure for clients at The Purfleet Trust as we launched the first of ten sailing sessions at Snettisham Beach Sailing Club.

The programme will introduce vulnerable people we support to the joys of sailing, providing a unique opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence, and enjoy the benefits of spending time outdoors in a supportive environment.

We are incredibly grateful to Snettisham Beach Sailing Club for generously offering their facilities, expertise, and time to make these sessions possible. Their support will enable our clients to experience sailing in a safe and welcoming setting, with access to fully adaptive and accessible boats designed to accommodate a range of mobility needs.

At The Purfleet Trust, promoting health and wellbeing is a key part of our work. We recognise that positive mental wellbeing plays an important role in helping people move forward from homelessness and rebuild their lives. Activities such as sailing provide much more than recreation; they offer opportunities to reduce stress, improve confidence, develop social connections, and experience a sense of achievement. These benefits can have a lasting impact, helping people feel more positive about their future and better equipped to overcome the challenges they face.

While sailing is undoubtedly great fun, the sessions will also help participants develop important life skills. Working together on the water encourages teamwork, communication, resilience, and problem-solving, while learning something completely new can have a hugely positive impact on confidence and wellbeing.

One client who took part in the first session said:

“I never imagined I’d get the chance to try sailing. I was a bit nervous at first, but once we got out on the water it was amazing. I can’t wait to come back again.”

The first few sessions have been a fantastic success, and we are already looking forward to seeing our clients continue to grow in confidence and ability over the coming weeks.

Thank you once again to everyone at Snettisham Beach Sailing Club for helping to make this opportunity possible. We can’t wait to see what the next sessions have in store.
