I’ve been volunteering for 2 and a half years now. I’ve learnt new skills from the other volunteers and staff and it has given me structure and increased my confidence.
Purfleet Pathways
Purfleet Pathways is a multi-functional space on North Lynn Industrial Estate where we run 2 main projects, bringing together our services and the local community.
Launched in 2022, Purfleet Pathways has helped 100s of our clients access key support that has helped them move forward out of homelessness.
The pathway out of homelessness is often not a straightforward one and we provide long-term support beyond initial housing options, including helping clients progress towards employment. Within Purfleet Pathways we provide both educational and practical opportunities for clients, which you can read more about here.
Pathways is also home to our House2Home project which gives people experiencing homelessness the best start possible when they move into independent accommodation. You can read more about House2Home here.
A year at Pathways…
hours of intensive 1-2-1 coaching
of clients say they feel more confident looking for work
people in to paid employment
interview skills workshops
Within Purfleet Pathways we provide both educational and practical opportunities. Our retail shop, Purfleet Pantry, and our warehouse allow clients to gain vital employment skills.
From our warehouse, we offer a range of training opportunities. A number of our clients have been trained to PAT test, as well as upcycle donated furniture and work on our van collecting donations from around the community.
Our workshops
At Pathways, we provide practical workshops to help clients learn skills in such things as woodwork, furniture upcycling and warehousing as well as training in retail, customer service and marketing.
These workshops help give our clients new skills, purpose, confidence and structure to find permanent work and improve their life situations and futures.
Volunteering opportunities for clients
What our clients have to say…
I became homeless and Purfleet helped me when I needed it. Volunteering means I can help other people in my situation, and it helps me to feel normal again.
I volunteer at Purfleet Pathways doing PAT testing on donated electrical items. I have more responsibility now which I was missing in my life. I like that I’m using my skills to give back.
Volunteering at the Purfleet Pantry has contributed to my plans for the future – I’ve constantly been learning new skills. I’ve been trained by Karen and had trial runs managing the shop.
The Purfleet Trust’s House2Home project provides furniture to clients moving into their new independent accommodation. We understand that moving into accommodation can be exciting but also cause anxiety, especially moving into an unfurnished and unfamiliar environment. This can lead to clients not settling in and risking falling back into homelessness.
House2Home works by receiving donated furniture and household items, upcycling and cleaning them up, and producing House2Home packages for clients in their new accommodation.
We aim to make sure that every individual has not just a house, but a home.
