Penny’s Trustee Story

Hi there, can you introduce yourself?
Hi I’m Penny and I’m a trustee on the board of The Purfleet Trust.
What inspired you to join the board at Purfleet?
I joined Purfleet as a volunteer when it started in 1993, but had to stop because my part-time job as a Careers Adviser became full-time. However, I was then invited to join the Board and I have been involved for most of the years since.
Can you tell us a bit about your experience as a trustee at Purfleet?
I have seen Purfleet overcome many challenges over the years from funding problems to a huge reduction in the number of private landlords willing to accommodate Purfleet clients.
It has been inspirational to see how these challenges have been met and to see how the organisation has developed from a small, largely unknown local charity into the prestigious, nationally recognised charity it has become.
Perhaps its greatest achievement so far is the fact that, of all the people they have been able to move into their own permanent accommodation, none has been made homeless again.
