From Farm to Freezer: Exploring Greenyard’s Pea Production Process
Last week, Greenyard Frozen King’s Lynn invited staff, volunteers and clients from The Purfleet Trust on a tour of their farm-to-factory pea processing operation.
The tour started in a pea field near Sutterton, Boston, where visitors were invited on board the state-of-the-art pea viners to experience the pea harvesting process.
We then followed the peas on their journey to Greenyard Frozen King’s Lynn at Hardwick for a tour of the factory where peas are measured using a Tenderometer, washed, blanched, frozen and packed. The whole process from field to frozen is undertaken in under 150 minutes.
See all the incredible photos from the day below!
Greenyard have been wonderful supporters over Purfleet over the past few years. One of the many projects they have been instrumental in is at the Purfleet Pantry social supermarket on Southgates, where Greenyard provide practical support by supply healthy and nutritious frozen vegetables to stock the shelves.
We were delighted to be invited to have this eye-opening experience courtesy of our food partners at Greenyard, and it was wonderful to be able to be joined by some of our volunteers and clients who found the tour to be a fascinating look behind the scenes of all the hard-work and skill that goes into a pack of frozen peas.
