Key takeaways

Last year, we supported 574 individuals at our Health & Wellbeing Centre who were experiencing homelessness, from sofa surfers to rough sleepers, prison leavers, those in temporary accommodation and more. We supported these individuals with over 5860 meals at our Centre, including 1979 breakfasts and 3881 hot lunches.

In 2025, we supported over 30 clients in our Training Houses – helping them to learn vital independent living skills to prepare them for the future. 13 clients last year moved on from the Training Houses into their own properties, all of which have maintained their new tenancies. We worked with an average of 40 people at any one time in temporary accommodation, and hundreds over the year. We also worked with many people in the pods in North Lynn. The pods house some of the most vulnerable people we work with who have complex and challenging needs and face struggles living with other people in temporary accommodation. In 2025, we supported 25 people living in the pods to move into their own property or into supported accommodation.

We had over 40 volunteers support us in 2025. These volunteers gave over 11,000 hours of their time to support our work. Volunteers cook lunches, hold vital admin roles, pick up food donations and furniture collections on our van and much more. Volunteers were instrumental in our Christmas Meal, which was a fantastic day where 100 clients, volunteers and staff came together to celebrate.

In 2025, we supported 11 clients into employment. We also provided 78 people with access to employability sessions, including 69 at our Centre. These sessions ranged from bicycle repair to CV work and mock interviews. We also worked closely with partners in the community including Mace Construction, Adult Learning Construction Centre, BOOST and the College of West Anglia to provide the exciting ‘Construction and Green Skills Pilot Programme’ which gave our clients practical learning and an inspiring look into the future of sustainable construction in our area.

We provided 44 House2Home packages last year. House2Home packages provide everything someone needs when moving into their new accommodation including beds, mattresses, tables, sofas, cutlery and more. These packages are vital in making people feel supported and able to move forward in what can be a challenging and uncomfortable time.

The Purfleet Pantry saw over 563 members use the shop last year. On average, members saved over 37% compared to an equivalent basket at a traditional supermarket. We also supported these members with children’s activity groups in the school holidays as well as groups such as knitting classes, which was a vital and valued service in the community last year.

225 people used our on-site gym at the Centre. Another 14 took part in Wellbeing Walks around West Norfolk. We also saw 79 attendees at our women only fitness classes, which we started after seeing the barriers that many women face. We have a strong focus on improving mental and physical health due to the importance that it plays in peoples’ journey out of homelessness. Statistics show that nationally, 45% of people experiencing homelessness have been diagnosed with a mental health issue (Crisis) and a shocking 78% report at least 1 physical health condition (Homeless Link).

Our Health Navigator worked directly with 53 clients, helping to identify and address health conditions, including cancer, through supporting check-ups and healthcare appointments. The Health Navigator programme is an innovative programme in collaboration with East of England Cancer Alliance, which aimed at improving the health of people experiencing homelessness by reducing barriers to healthcare, increasing engagement and promoting early detection of health conditions.
