Moving Well with Data

Purfleet’s Moving Well with Data Programme

We were excited to launch the first session of our four-week “Moving Well with Data” programme, bringing together a fantastic group of participants for a morning focused on gentle activity, wellbeing and connection.

The programme is part of the Take the Lead initiative funded by Health Data Research UK, which supports community organisations across the UK to explore how health data can support health and wellbeing in ways that are meaningful to local communities. The initiative funds creative, community-led projects designed to spark conversations about health, wellbeing and how simple data – like step counts or mood tracking – can help people better understand their own health.

Our project will support our clients to take ownership over their health by tracking vital data such as steps, mood, energy and sleep. By combining gentle physical activity and time for reflection, our project aims to build confidence, improve wellbeing and help people feel more comfortable understanding and using their own health data to improve health outcomes.

Client wellbeing session

A great start to the programme

Our first session welcomed 11 clients, who joined us with enthusiasm and curiosity about what the programme would involve.

After a short introduction and discussion about the project, we provided our participants with pedometers, which would allow them to track vital signals, then we headed out together for our first group walk. The group walked around the sandpits in Wootton woods, covering approximately 3.5km through the local woodland.

The walk gave everyone a chance to enjoy the fresh air, get moving and chat together along the way. It was fantastic to see participants encouraging each other and enjoying the shared experience.

Not only this, but it was also great to see the mix of clients we had join us. We had a huge range of ages and ability join us, including some with long-term health conditions, so it was fantastic to see the encouragement, support and positivity shown by the whole group.

Looking ahead

Session one was a brilliant start and we are really looking forward to the next few weeks as the group continues the programme.

We will be sharing more updates as the project progresses and celebrating the journeys our participants take as they explore how movement, community and understanding simple health data can support their wellbeing.
