Growing Together at Our Allotment
We recently spent time at our new allotment alongside a group of our clients — and it’s already proving to be something special.
We took a wellbeing walk from our Centre at Austin Fields, enjoying some good exercise and open chats, to our new allotment space at Wardles Chase, South Lynn. Our clients got stuck straight into planting, exploring the space, and learning new skills. For many, it was a chance to try something completely new; for others, it was about reconnecting with nature and enjoying time outdoors in a supportive environment.
Progress at our allotment has been made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, and it’s designed to be much more than just a growing space.
This project is about creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where people facing challenges such as homelessness, social isolation, and food poverty can come together to connect, grow, and thrive.
Through weekly sessions supported by staff and volunteers, participants will:
- Learn practical skills in food growing, sustainability, and biodiversity
- Build confidence and develop routine
- Improve their wellbeing through time outdoors
- Play an active role in shaping and maintaining the space
Over time, the allotment will also provide fresh produce to support our centre lunches and Purfleet Pantry, helping to strengthen our wider community.
What stood out most during this first visit was the sense of ownership already beginning to form. People weren’t just taking part – they were supporting each other and taking pride in what they were creating together.
This is just the beginning and we can’t wait to see what comes this summer!

Thanks to National Lottery players for making our project possible. We’re making a huge difference to the lives of the people we support thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund.
